Alex Tenkate, founder of Major Operator and Driver Training Service, has a wealth of experience in the earthmoving industry as well as years of experience in the transport and trucking industry. In 1987, Alex Tenkate, the Principal and Managing Director of Major Plant Hire & Haulage, began as a new business. After 10 successful years serving the industry, Alex sold the haulage division in 1998 to Team Transport. Several of the projects he has been involved with over the past 30 years include: Gateway Arterial Motorway (1985 – Bald Hills to Nudgee) Port of Brisbane Pioneer Concrete (Prime Contractors) Tarong Power Station Hire of excavators and earthmoving equipment to the Caloundra, Brisbane and Gold Coast City Councils. Major Operator and Driver Training Service began when Alex recognised that there was a need for properly skilled and trained people in the industry. The Australian economy was enjoying a time of prosperity, and South East Queensland was experiencing a building boom. Coupled with this was the introduction of Workplace Health & Safety requirements. In response to these factors, Alex gained his “Registered Training Organisation” (RTO) status in 1998 and the Major Operator and Driver Training Service opened for business. Major Training appointed a General Manager in July 2007 to give it corporate status, offer excellent customer service and make its training its core business. Major has grown from employing five staff to now employing in excess of 60 permanent / casual staff with additional contractor trainers and assessors to help serve as a one-stop-shop for the general public, employers and job providers. Together, this has assisted Major in becoming one of Queensland's largest RTOs specialising in training for the Transport, Logistics, and Construction and Mining industries. Based in Queensland, we have strategically positioned our Head Office and training site at Yatala and in the past few years have added additional simulated training sites at Caboolture in January 2008 and Ipswich in January 2009. We also have staff based on the eastern sea board to service industry along the coast. All courses at Major Operator and Driver Training Services are structured to give each person, with the designated period of the course, the practical experience they require to be ticketed. The guidelines for assessment comply with the standards set by Workplace Health & Safety and National Occupational Health and Safety Competency Standards for the operation of “Loadshifting Equipment” and other types of specified equipment.
