The Department of Justice and Attorney-General is the government agency responsible for administering justice in Queensland. The Department of Justice and Attorney-General is the government agency responsible for administering justice in Queensland. The Department also leads policy development and delivers services to ensure safe, fair and productive work environments which contribute to the social and economic wellbeing of Queenslanders.

The organisational structure (PDF File, 97.6 KB) aligns key business functions to improve accountability and to deliver quality services. The structure provides staff with clear direction and minimises duplication of services while maximising service delivery to the community.

The Justice portfolio consists of business units, and numerous government and statutory bodies and officers in the areas of Justice Services and Fair and Safe Work.

Office of Director-General
Internal Audit reports directly to the Director-General on both audit and administrative matters and the Child Saftey Director, on behalf of the department, coordinates the operational delivery and reporting of the department's child protection services.

Corporate Services

Corporate Services supports departmental operations and provides expert advice to departmental divisions on matters including human resources and corporate governance, marketing and communication, facility and property management, financial services and information technology services.

Governance
The department's governance framework provides mechanisms to drive performance, achieve our organisational goals and objectives and deliver on government outcomes.

Strategic Policy, Legal and Executive Services
Strategic Policy provides policy advice to the Minister, the Director-General, other state government departments and Commonwealth agencies about all areas for which the minister and department are responsible. Legal Services provides support to business areas that service both the community and the department's corporate service functions and Executive Services provides support to the executive management of the department.

Our wide and varied services help to build a safe, just and supportive society. The department delivers diverse services through its courts and tribunals, legal and advocacy services and through a range of community-focused programs, policies and services.

Youth Justice
The goal of youth justice is to provide a fair and balanced response to young people in contact with the youth justice system. This response holds young people accountable for their actions, encourages their reintegration into the community and promotes community safety.

Office of Fair and Safe Work Queensland
The Department of Justice and Attorney-General provides services to support a fair and equitable industrial relations system, safe work environments and improved personal and public electrical safety.

Liquor and Gaming
The Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation is responsible for promoting the economic development of Queensland's liquor industry, within a socially responsible framework. It is also tasked with maintaining the integrity and probity of the gambling industry in Queensland and ensuring the community benefits from gaming machine gambling.

Office of Fair Trading
The Office of Fair Trading services Queensland businesses and consumers by providing information and advice about their rights and responsibilities, helping businesses and consumers resolve disputes, licensing a range of occupations, investigating complaints about unfair business practices, prosecuting unscrupulous business and regulating product safety.

Workplace Health and Safety Board and Committees, Electrical Safety Board and Committees, Industrial Relations Education Committee.

Climate change initiatives
The Department of Justice and Attorney-General acknowledges the impact of climate change on the environment and continues to act as part of a whole-of-government approach to energy management and water conservation.

Statutory authorities
Statutory authorities overseen by the department including, WorkCover Queensland, QLeave, QCOMP and Queensland Industrial Relations Commission and Court.
