Dr Ali originates from Fiji and was educated in Fiji, New Zealand an Australia. He completed his gastroenterology training at Dunedin Hospital, a Teaching hospital of University of Otago in 1990 and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He completed a clinical fellowship at the St George Hospital, Sydney Australia from 1992-1994 He was a recipient of an NH and MRCP Australia scholarship for research into physiology and pathophysiology of swallowing. He has presented both nationally and internationally his research findings and was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine by the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. Dr Ali has been working as Consultant Gastroenterologist on the Gold Coast since 1995. He was initially a Staff Specialist Physician and gastroenterologist at the Gold Coast hospital. He was the Clinical Director of Gastroenterology at the hospital until 2002. Since 1997 he has been in private practice and had continued to work as a senior visiting gastroentertrologist at Gold Coast Hospital until February 2007 Dr Ali has been involved with medical student teaching with University of Queensland and recently with Griffith University Gold Coast campus and has held the position of Associate professor. He is also involved with GP education and regularly presents at educational meetings. Dr Ali currently is based at Pacific Private Clinic and attends to consultation at Allamanda and Pindara Private Hospitals. He provides a comprehensive GI service which includes interventional endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy), capsule endoscopy, enteroscopy, PEG insertion, and oesophageal manometry and pH studies. His special interest are IBD, motility disorders and disorders of swallowing. He is member of RACP, AMA, Gastroenterological Society of Australia, Qld Gastroenterological Society, Gold Coast Medical Association, New Zealand Society of Gastroenterology and the American Gastroenterological Association.
