THAI MASSAGE has a long history, dating back more than 2500 years. In ancient times, Thai massage was only available at wat or temples. It is similar to Japanese shaitsu as the pressure points are based on Sen or invisible energy lines that are similar to Chinese meridian. Thai massage promotes circulation of life energy throughout the whole body by stretching and opening the joints, muscles and the Sen lines. Thai Massage is known as a healing art as recipients have reported improvements in many ailments. It is the combination of yoga stretching, calmness of meditation, with accupressure, exercise movement and reflexology that makes it a healing art. Thai Massage is really a deep full body treatment, starting from the head and progressing down to the feet or from feet and progressing up to head. It is different from other massage as the client wears comfortable clothes and lying on a hard mattress on the floor. Oils are not used. The Thai Massage therapist uses his or her hands, thumbs, elbows, feet and knees. The manipulations include rhythmic stretching, kneading and pressure from sitting and standing. Sometimes, there may a crack sound as your joint is manipulated but don't be alarmed as this is the joints releasing gas pockets within the joint capsule and is therapeutic in itself. You may be asked to coordinate your breathing to the stretches, kneading and pressure techniques. You will also be asked to give feedback as whether the pressure is too hard too soft.
