After graduating from the Queensland University in 1979 Rowan worked in mixed practice on the Western Downs and later on the Queensland Central Coast. It was during this time that he was finding an increasing number of problems that were left unanswered by conventional veterinary medicine. He was inspired to see if there was a different way to address these problems. He initially completed a certificate in Veterinary Acupuncture and a Graduate Diploma in Animal Chiropractic. In 2002 Rowan was awarded a Master of Chiropractic Science (Animal Chiropractic) from RMIT University. In 2003 he moved to South East Queensland where he concentrated on equine chiropractic medicine for five years. During this time he treated multiple thousands of cases. Due to the increasing public demand for canine chiropractic treatment he and his wife Judith opened Animal Options Veterinary Clinic where manipulative medicine could be obtained alongside conventional medicine. He now devotes most of his time to clinical work on small animals, research and education. AVCA Rowan is a member of the Australian Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA), a member of the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA), and special interest groups Equine Veterinary Association (EVA), Holistic (AHV), and Acupuncture (AVAG). She commenced work in mixed practice and later completed an internship in horse medicine and surgery. Her work with performance horses stimulated an interest in biomechanics and prompted her to commence veterinary chiropractic studies. Amanda was awarded a graduate diploma in Animal Chiropractic from RMIT in 2009. After seeing the benefits of chiropractic treatment, Amanda sought additional treatment modalities which could further enhance outcomes in her patients, and completed her certificate in Veterinary acupuncture. Amanda still maintains her interest in surgery and enjoys having a range of options open to tailor treatment for each individual animal. In addition to working at Animal Options, Amanda is in the Army Reserve where she provides veterinary care for military working dogs as well as humanitarian assistance both in Australia and overseas.
