Most of our products are individually handcrafted items from natural materials, providing each with a unique signature and style. While similar, no two pieces are identical. Where possible we select our suppliers based on their approach to sustainable, environmentally sound practices. Mahogany and Teak We use plantation mahogany and teak for all our wooden furniture - tables, chests of drawers, bookcases, buffets, hall tables, mirrors and screens. Teak is easily worked and has natural oils that make it suitable for use in exposed locations, where it is durable even when not treated with oil or varnish. All our teak is kiln dried to achieve an excellent end result. Mahogany generally has a straight grain and is usually free of voids and pockets. It has a reddish-brown colour which darkens over time, and displays a beautiful reddish sheen when polished. It has excellent workability and is very durable - these properties make it a favourable wood for making furniture. Water Hyacinth Water hyacinth, a native of the upper Amazon catchment, is one of the world''''''''''''''''s worst aquatic weeds. Once in rivers, dams and lakes, it can double its size within a few weeks, forming mats which impede the use and ecology of the waterways. Cleverly, the Indonesians amongst others, have developed ways of weaving water hyacinth into remarkable, highly durable, furniture. Lounge suites, chairs, day-beds, ottomans and footstools made of water hyacinth are suitable for both inside and undercover patios. Water hyacinth is very happy to have a drink - it is quite happy to get damp as you might expect furniture to on a covered patio area. Abaca To the untrained eye the abaca plant can easily be mistaken for the banana plant - without the fruit. It is harvested for its extremely strong and durable leaf to make furniture, ropes, clothing and paper-based materials. Lounge suites, chairs, day-beds, ottomans and footstools made of abaca are suitable for undercover or protected areas. Please visit our FAQ section on this website for information on how to care for your wooden furniture to ensure its lustre continues to give you years of pleasure. When you look at our range on-line please be aware that colours may vary from those you see on your monitor or from images that you print.
