We are more than your usual B&B – one of our specialities is our breakfast hampers served to your cottage each morning, delightful breakfast options with free range home grown eggs, bacon, german sausages, tomatoes and mushrooms for you to cook when it suits you or locally smoked hams and cheeses, cereals, fruits and yoghurts etc. Oh yes, all our breakfast hampers come with fresh home baked breads each morning – yum! Sumptuous BBQ dinner hampers can be provided on request or you are welcome to bring your own provisions. From your cottage at Witches Falls your nearest neighbour is Witches Falls National park, Queensland's oldest national park and a magical walk after breakfast. You may be lucky and see an Alberts Lyrebird or a myriad of other wildlife that live in the National Park, but it's not only in the park, in our grounds you will find the rare and beautiful “Land Mullet” a glossy black skink, bandicoots, possums, blue tongue lizards and birds ranging from King Parrots, lorikeets, bower birds and a host of little ones that live in our gardens. But you don't have to stay in, from your cottage you can walk to 3 of the wineries, antique shops, galleries, the local village and the famous Rotary Lookout is only 150 meters away where you can enjoy the magnificent sunsets that Mt Tamborine is so well known for.

Tamborine Mountain just 30 minutes from the Gold Coast and less than an hours drive from Brisbane is a table top mountain 550 meters above sea level and located just behind the Gold Coast in an area that is known as 'The Gold Coast Hinterland'. Witches Falls Cottages are located on the western escarpment right in the middle of Tamborine Mountain. From our Cottages you can easily amble across the road to the Witches Falls National Park picnic ground, and enjoy the hour rainforest circuit of Queensland's Oldest National Park (declared in 1908), from which we draw our name.

About Tamborine Mountain

Very Tall Trees in Tamborine Mountain National ParkTamborine Mountain is part of the northern rim of the great caldera of which Mt Warning is the dominant feature. Formed millions of years ago, the eons of weathering has produced a plateau with rich volcanic soils and underground aquifers of indeterminate magnitude. The mountain has a unique climate and peculiar ecosystems, which support much diversity of fauna and flora. The lush green rural countryside of Mount Tamborine is dotted with a variety of crops such as Avocado and Kiwi Fruit Orchards, Rhubarb and its own Coffee Plantation. Home to Tamborine National Park, the park is made up of 13 sections of land on the Tamborine plateau and surrounding foothills. The park protects remnants of Tamborine Mountain's plant communities and includes areas of rainforest with distinctive piccabeen palm groves, wet eucalypt forest dominated by tall flooded gums, open forest with bracken fern understorey and woodland. Surrounded by urban and rural development, these plant communities provide essential wildlife habitat. Tamborine Mountain escarpment contains 85 percent of all fauna species and 65 percent of all flora species in the Gold Coast City area.

Tamborine Mountain has been described as an island in the sky, and is referred to as the "Green behind the Gold" in the tourism industry. It is one of the most visited day-trip destinations in Australia, attracting some 1.3 million visitors, both national and international, annually.

Although one community, the mountain is in reality three distinct "village" areas, separated from each other by green belts and rural land. Eagle Heights is situated adjacent to the north-eastern escarpment; North Tamborine includes the main business centre and occupies the north-western edge of the plateau; Mt Tamborine encompasses the whole southern part of the mountain.

Rainforest Walking Tracks in Tamborine Mountain National Park

Walking Track with Lookout and brilliant natural viewsWalking tracks are provided in six sections of Tamborine National Park (view or download a PDF document showing a printable Map of all Walking Tracks). Most walking tracks are short and can be walked within a few hours. The walks are relatively easy although some tracks have short, steep grades. At usual walking pace, 3km takes about an hour. If you are walking with young children, or if you are birdwatching or taking photographs, allow extra time. The park is home to many rainforest animals including the rare Albert's lyrebird and one of the world's largest skinks, the land mullet. The Richmond birdwing butterfly and noisy pitta migrate seasonally to the park from nearby higher altitude rainforests. Basalt columns, cliffs, rocky outcrops and waterfalls are a lasting legacy of volcanic eruptions 23 million years ago. Tamborine is the most northerly remnant of the flows from a volcano centred on Mt Warning.
