Welcome to JSDance……Established in 1997, I have been fortunate to have many students come through the doors to share their love for Dance…….. Starting from 2 1/2yrs of age through to Adults, there are many classes on offer to suit………..Modern Jazz, Hip Hop, Ballet, Tap with specialized classes Boys Club, Contemporary, Musical Theatre and Body Conditioning……….

We give our youngest dancers the best start with our Beginnings Program and can develop the students right through to Examination Levels and Performances through our Core Classes…………. Add to that some exciting Specialty Classes to give the students that bit more out of their dance program……….

Just want to dance for fun with no commitment to extra - curricular activities? That’s quite Ok. At JSDance we cater to both the recreational student as well at those wishing to undertake more serious training………

I bring over 35years of dance training, 25 years of teaching experience and qualifications to create the best environment and classes for the students to learn…… We have fun, mix with great people all whilst developing amazing dance technique and confidence………..Most of our classes are minimum 1hour. Our philosophy is to allow adequate time for safe and correct training with warm up and cool down. It is never beneficial to learn in an “express class concept”

Before enrolment you will receive a copy of the studio handbook. Please take the time to read through this as it contains important information to assist you during your time at JSDance……... It covers Class Descriptions, Timetables, and Fee Structures along with all our Procedures and Policies which must be followed at all times for the period of your enrolment. ……….JSDance is committed to providing a child and youth friendly, safe environment and most importantly we strive to communicate a love of dance……… Should you have any queries at any time, please feel free to contact me via the studio office…….

I look forward to you joining us in classes this year along with our fantastic teachers and staff!

Miss Jackie

Additional Dance Opportunities

A great way for students to further develop their dance technique is through annual examinations. It gives the students a goal to work towards during their classes and a great sense of achievement. It does require a slightly higher level of discipline and commitment, not just from the student, but also parents to ensure students attend all their classes and undertake a good practice routine at home. Examinations may commence for students in Pre-Dance aged level and above in each style of dance.

All students will learn the work in their regular classes and be offered the opportunity to consider entering an examination. Examinations are not just important to those seeking a career in the dance industry, but the skills and benefits developed by the dancers during their childhood and adolescent years, such as discipline and goal setting, are also valued by many employers and other professions.

End of Year Concert

JSDance holds an annual concert at the Brisbane Powerhouse at New Farm. This is a great opportunity to showcase the students work and talents. A routine is taught in each class throughout the year which is performed at the concert. Participation in the concert is not compulsory and should a student choose not to be involved, they are still most welcome to continue attending classes at the studio for the rest of the year. As the concert is voluntary, an extra level of commitment is required and essential to the success of the show. Students should strive for 100% attendance at all classes to keep on top of choreography. Costuming, Make Up, Set Hairstyles, Stockings and Shoes are also required to ensure the performance maintains uniformity. In addition to regular classes, the students are also required to attend a Compulsory Costume Viewing and Full Dress Rehearsal.

Class Assistants/Teacher Training

At JSDance we pride ourselves on the development of the dance students with opportunities in mentoring and teaching. Students can express interest during early high school years. They are given classes to attend and under the guidance of the teacher, gain skills working with children, assisting dance technique and general class concepts. Class assistants receive a discount on their own dance fees. Once the student is old enough to be employed and has shown a commitment to class assisting, they can become a Jnr member of staff. Here they really start to gain skills including basic administration and Dance Teacher Training. It is a fantastic platform even if the students are not interested in pursuing as a career, it makes for great part time job through school and uni. Please speak to Jackie if you are interested. It is important that the student is looking to commit working through the stages as the end result is very rewarding! Students can also study Certificate Level Dance Qualifications during this period.

JSDance is located in a lovely residential area of Moorooka. We are fortunate to have Peggs Park right beside where younger students and families can enjoy the park facilities before and after class with parent supervision. The Studio is fully air conditioned with sprung dance flooring, mirrors, barres etc to create an enjoyable and safe dance environment. A student waiting room is located beside the studio to leave bags etc and to warm up and prepare for class. There are separate male and female toilet facilities at the rear of the hall which allows for privacy for changing too. If you have valuables you can bring them into the studio and place in pigeon holes. Phones must be switched off. A kitchen with fridge and microwave is also located in the building. Parents are welcome to wait in the lattice area before and after class to drop off and collect students.
