Ask your surgeon to describe the operation in detail and show you video of their vasectomy reversal and bypass epididymovasostomy (EV)

A note from Dr Lekich

Please consider these points when doing your research on either vasectomy or vasectomy reversal:

  1. The vas deferens tissue is precious and limited in length and deciding who should operate on it should be carefully considered
  2. If you are thinking about a vasectomy, consider all your options as not all vasectomies are equal
  3. If you have had a vasectomy and would like more children – a well performed vasectomy reversal may be your best option. Ask your surgeon to describe the operation in detail and show you video of their vasectomy reversal and bypass epididymovasostomy (EV)

WHY CHOOSE METROCENTRE?

We use Ultrasound

Our use of diagnostic ultrasound imaging for assessment, mapping and planning of the scrotum has made Metrocentre well known throughout Australia and the world. Due to our highly skilled use of ultrasound, not offered in other clinics, we have been able to achieve successful results for many difficult patient cases, who have been unable to achieve adequate results elsewhere. From our ability to plan our procedures pre operatively, our patients have as much information as possible to help them make informed decisions prior to surgery.

Although the use of ultrasound as a diagnostic tool has been proven to be far better than a physical examination, there are still providers in Australia who doubt its benefit particularly when it comes to Vasectomy Reversal. In our practice, it is no longer a “wait and see how we go on the day of surgery finding the vas”, and offering no real indication for the patient of the likelihood of even being able to join the vas ends. We can plan and map our procedure at the consultation through the use of the ultrasound by identifying the best possible approach to take, maximizing results for the patient. This makes our success rates high when it comes to redo procedure – those who have had reversals elsewhere that have failed and come to us to see if another attempt is possible. This is where the ultrasound comes into its own in terms of diagnostic ability.

Training

Dr Lekich has been trained by one of the most prominent micro-surgeons in the world – Professor Earl Owen, and has since become his successor. Professor Owen performed the first bilateral arm transplant and pioneered vasectomy reversal. He performed the first vasectomy reversal over 30 years ago, spending up to 4 hours just re-joining one side. As he performed and perfected the procedure over time, his success rates came to be known around the world for vasectomy reversal.

Reduced Procedure Complications

The Open Ended Vasectomy, with a true reconstruction of the two ends of the vas means that we are able to offer a procedure that has a reduced incidence of Post Vasectomy Pain Syndrome. This type of procedure has a better chance of successful reversal if ever needed in the future. Similarly, with our Microsurgical Vasectomy Reversal procedures, our patients have ever experienced a hematoma or swelling post procedure, with most men finding that simple analgesia is all that is required after the procedure. Many men are surprised by the post-operative phase of their procedure. We do not expect bruising, and are always surprised by the post operative comparisons made by patients who have come to us for their second vasectomy reversal procedure when the first one, done elsewhere has failed. We hear of patients who are in bed for two weeks from pain post procedure, experience extensive bruising and have difficulty walking after their procedures. Our patients have never experienced this outcome due to our surgical technique. We firmly believe that bleeding is the enemy of a reversal procedure in terms of scarring, hence our technique to rejoin the vas deferens is virtually bloodless.

World Class Facilities

Modern state-of-the-art theatres allow our patients to have the best experience possible. Our dedicated facilities and high level technical and diagnostic support, enable us to provide excellent outcomes for our patients.

Recently accredited by Global Mark, our facility is also licensed by Queensland Health.

ASK A QUESTION

Our expert team are supportive, experienced and offer quality care before, during and after your procedure. If you have a question please use the form below.

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that the vas deferens is the most important structure when it comes to a vasectomy reversal?

In fact, if your vasectomy is performed in the correct position, you maximize the likelihood of a successful reversal. So when considering a vasectomy procedure, be sure to consider a properly reconstructed open ended vasectomy – reduce the incidence of post vasectomy pain and increase your success rates in terms of a vasectomy reversal down the track.
