This is an early photo in the 1900’s looking north along Stratton Terrace across Laidlaw Parade (later Cambridge). On the right in the picture is the corner store belonging to Mr Russell.

Outside is the bread delivery wagon probably the property of Mr Haylock who distributed Webster’s bread throughout the district before any local bakery was built. Mr Haylock waited near Hemmant to meet one of Webster’s wagons which would bring the bread from Brisbane. He would then continue the delivery to all the district’s shops.

Next to Mr Russell’s store is the Manly Hall known as Paton’s Hall, the property of Mrs Paton who ran a large general store just out of the picture behind the two tall gumtrees.

The vacant site on the left corner is now the Manly Hotel. Further down is Curtis’s store before coming to the Corner of Cambridge Parade and Stratton Terrace Mr Russell’s and Paton’s hall and general store are the site of the Manly Village. This area is now the carpark in Stratton Terrace.
