On your initial consultation, your Osteopath will:

Take a detailed medical history and review any images, xrays or scans you may have.

Then conduct a thorough examination of your body in order to determine both the source and site of your symptoms (we refer for imaging only when required).

After that your Osteopath will discuss your diagnosis and treatment options to determine the best management plan for you (referral if required).

Followed by your Osteopathic treatment and the provision of specific educational material to help manage or prevent your symptoms from recurring.

Each consultation is approximately 40 minutes in duration and we ask that you arrive 10 minutes prior to your initial consultation to complete the required forms.

Treatment Approaches

Osteopaths recognise the fact that structure and function are reciprocally interrelated and that the body is a complete unit – therefore on this basis, treatment approaches aim to optimise the musculoskeletal systems and their interfacing elements such as the nerves, blood vessels, lymphatic tissue and other organ systems.

We apply a variety of Osteopathic treatment techniques including:

SOFT TISSUE MANIPULATION & MASSAGE

Is utilised to mechanically stretch the skin, fascia and muscle tissue to enhance their range of motion, improve fluid flow and modulate neural activity to relieve pain and restore function

JOINT ARTICULATION

Is the precise application of very small movements to joints with minimal force which will often produce a “clicking” sound. This modality is used to provide pain relief and optimise motion to stiff and painful joints.

MUSCLE ENERGY TECHNIQUES

Involves applying a gentle stretch by the osteopath, with the patient then gently contracting the muscle against resistance. These techniques are great for lengthening shortened tissue and removing fluid congestion to relieve painful conditions.

NEURAL MOBILISATION

Which involves gentle rhythmic movements of limbs whilst the body is positioned in a way that puts tension along specific nerves to improve their mobility and remove any points of adhesion to decrease pain and tingling along the nerves path.

VISCERAL TECHNIQUES

Used in the management of internal organs and the affects they have on the musculoskeletal system through their common interfaces. It involves gentle stretching and mobilisation of the visceral organs.

CRANIAL & INDIRECT TECHNIQUES

Are extremely gentle release techniques where the osteopath holds the body in a position of ease to decrease nerve stimulation and allow structures and fluid to move without interference of the surrounding structures. These techniques are highly suitable for infants, the physically frail and those in extremely acute pain states.

EXERCISE PRESCRIPTION

Is an important part of the rehabilitation process, to enhance the manual therapy given and to help prevent reoccurrence of the pain/injury.

HEAT THERAPY

Is designed to improve circulation, decrease pain and ease muscle tension

DRY NEEDLING

Is the use of tiny hair thin acupuncture needles by qualified practitioners to deactivate trigger points, loosen shortened muscles/connective tissue and improve neurological systems. People experience this treatment modality differently, though most feel no pain at all as the needles are inserted.
