Read carefully below and you will see that when you start out with very small engines and a big country, you MUST select the correct gear, bucket angle, and pitch, and use the momentum of the machine.

The Murphy family has pioneered the application of machinery in various fields since that machinery was available. That gives trainees the best possible knowledge base to learn from.

1910 onwards. Raymond Murphy (Grandfather) buys the first; motorised truck, articulated motorised truck and motorised grader available. Ray was the first man to have motorised machinery in his shire (now Diamantina Shire). Ray operated a mail run east from the famous ‘Birdsville track' to Longreach in central Queensland. People who know the area may recall Min-Min and Middleton etc. Ray was an early adopter of motorised machinery and quickly realised that the high speed motor trucks needed better roads than the camel and bullock wagons they had been using. Also the articulated motor trucks needed much more turning space. Some of the drivers had difficulty understanding that the truck did not have common sense – were the camels and bullocks basically understood the task.
