Corporate Wide Bay Water Corporation is the first local government owned corporation in Queensland. We provide water and wastewater services to the Fraser Coast. The corporation is wholly owned by Fraser Coast Regional Council (FCRC) and governed by an independent Board of Directors working under the Queensland Local Government Act 2009 and the Local Government (Beneficial Enterprises and Business Activities) Regulation 2010. Wide Bay Water Corporation also undertakes the planning, development and operation of water distribution infrastructure in the collection, distribution and disposal of water. As part of this work, Wide Bay Water Corporation has become nationally and internationally recognised as being at the forefront of water-loss prevention and distribution management. Wide Bay Water Corporation is also recognised nationally as a leader in the development of land-based water reuse facilities particularly to improve crop productivity to the advantage of local farmers and to grow income-producing hardwood tree plantations. Wide Bay Water Corporation provides water and sewage services to Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Tiaro and the townships of Burrum Heads, Howard, Toogoom and River Heads. The Corporation also works with councils and water authorities across Australia delivering expertise in all areas of water management. The region’s water network includes Lake Lenthall, Cassava Dam, two weirs on the Burrum River and Teddington Weir on Tinana Creek. Water is purified at three treatment plants and wastewater is treated at seven treatment plants. We also own and operate WetSide Water Education Park where recycled stormwater is treated onsite to help supply the park's fountains. Additionally, we have an industry-leading wastewater re-use scheme for the irrigation of canefields, turf farms and our own hardwood plantations (400 hectares and growing). By recycling treated wastewater we are protecting marine environments from high nutrient levels and simultaneously putting them to good use on land. Wide Bay Water Corporation provides a very experienced team of people who have had wide knowledge and understanding in the design and operation of sewage treatment plants ranging in size from 200 EP to 900,000 EP involving conventional treatment and advanced technologies including Biological Nutrient Removal and UV Disinfection. Wide Bay Water Corporation has an integrated management system based on ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 22000 (Food Safety Management, including HACCP) for water treatment, storage and distribution and ISO 14001 (Environmental management) for wastewater collection, treatment and effluent reuse and all other areas of WBW. External works like Engineering services and the Pipeline Inspection unit are ISO 9001 certified. The water treatment plants in Hervey Bay, Maryborough and Tiaro are ISO 22000 certified to produce quality, safe drinking water and the Scientific Services is a NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities) accredited laboratory and can conduct tests and monitoring for external customers as well.
