James Davies grew up in Melbourne and after finishing school started working in the building industry to become a qualified carpenter . “The scope of my works included large commercial projects with a mix of cottage work, and during this time we did almost all of the trades , that was how it was then”.Ingrid Dekker has a wealth of knowledge working in kitchens throughout Europe . This reflects in the kitchen designs; a feature in all our projects. Ingrid is also gifted with her colour co-ordination techniques and applies her skills to bring the design and environment together. Well the love of surfing drew James to sunny Queensland in the early 70's . “Anyone who has experiencd the “glide” and surfed in a cold climate will know why I made the move“. Subcontract carpentry work followed , and a stint with a survey team, however travel was next on the agenda. Twelve months in South Africa working in construction and surfing followed. “What an eye opener that was. We had men everywhere to help do the heavy work. Africa is a beautiful place, very similar to the Australian landscape “ With money saved it was off to Europe, the Pacific and Indian Oceans, in what is known as the “search”. In 1985 Jaymac Construction was registered and a commercial and house builder license was obtained. From here on it was house building and renovation work which James won his first building award. This was a fantastic accolade as the national final was held in KL, Malaysia . ‘We didn't win the final , but I learnt about Fen Shui and we all had a huge banquet with the King ! “ With the focus on energy efficiency and the construction of James' own home in an isolated area in the Hinterland , self sufficiency was paramount. More awards followed , and then the “Cockatoo House” won the Qld Greensmart home of the Year.” I am passionate about my work and this is reflected in our building”.
