In fact you may have already received a letter or SMS from us reminding you to return to your GP for a diabetes check, either eight weeks after the birth of your baby, or annually. This program supports a National Diabetes Services Scheme program called the National Gestational Diabetes Register (NGDR). The Register was established in July 2011 to help women who have had gestational diabetes manage their health into the future. Registration with the NGDR is free. Women who have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, reside in Australia and hold or are eligible to hold an Australian Medicare Card, are entitled to register.
