After starting work as a DJ at the ‘Night Train” disco in Broken Hill in the early 80’s working alongside huge touring bands the likes of Australian Crawl, Men at Work, The Party boys and Misex to name but a few, Brent has been entertaining in some form or another most weekends ever since, never taking a break of more than 4 weeks in the capacity of either DJ, MC, Guitar vocalist, forming part of a Duo, Auctioneer, Karaoke host or Compering a function somewhere in the country.
A graduate of the prestigious ‘Australian Institute of Radio and TV’ in 1988 he has entertained tens of thousands of people and an ever growing list of celebrities including Magda Szubanski, Steve Irwin, John Blackman, Spencer Jolly, Kieren Perkins, Wally Lewis, Paul ‘Campo’ Campion, Lindsay Fox and Sam Kekovich to name but a few. These days when he’s not entertaining at Weddings and Corporate events, you might find Brent crooning the Friday night drinks crowd at a local bar or restaurant, or pulling up a stool with his Guitar at a Sunday session somewhere. Brent writes his own songs, has performed on the main stage at the ever popular Gympie Music Muster and has even picked up a few awards along the way for his efforts.
THURSDAY AUGUST 23 2012 – After quitting his job late last year to concentrate on music full time Brent Officen wins the Modern Country heat at the 2012 Gympie Muster with 3 of his own songs, beating X-Factor contestant Jude Kelly and Jessica Jade Bruce.
He then goes on to beat the remaining top 14 contestants to win the semi final on the Saturday and book a main stage appearance for the finale on the Sunday – only to go down by 1.5 points in the decider to finish as runner up.
You’re likely to hear anything from the Kinks to Kisschasy at one of Brent’s gigs but he tends to pick songs that suit the crowd and the occasion.”It’s horses for courses as always but depending on the venue even the rowdy tunes can get the laid back treatment, – especially on a Sunday” he smiles.
